The National Children’s Choir was set up in 1985 by Dr. Seán Creamer to celebrate the European Music Year.  It takes place bi-annually and schools can participate with children from 4th, 5th or 6th class.  The children are taught the repertoire in their own school and then come together with other schools for rehearsals throughout the year.  Towards the end of the year the children take part in a magnificent concert with children from many different schools.  Since 1985 over 90,000 children have taken part in the National Children’s Choir throughout the country.

The repertoire is very challenging and usually contains about 16 songs in Irish, English, Latin and sometimes other languages such as French or Italian.

In our school the children from 4th, 5th and 6th class participate.  This year is the third time we have been involved and both students and teachers have thoroughly enjoyed every part of it so far.  The children have been enthusiastic and hard working as they learn the repertoire.  Their behaviour when they have been to the large rehearsal groups has been exemplary and we have been very proud of them.  They have represented our school so well.
